IJPDS is delighted to introduce a special issue call focusing on Data Transparency and to invite authors to submit manuscripts for consideration.

Data Transparency is an emerging and essential element in building public trust in the use of personal health and social care data (especially sensitive data) and how such data is being used for research.

It includes Patient/Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), improving access to routine data and registers (including public access), improving consistency and standardisation, implementing new standards, FAIR data processing principles, and ways to improve discoverability of outcomes, including outputs from data use. Essentially, it’s about promoting transparency in how data is being used for research, who is using it and for what purpose.

We recognise that there can be considerable challenges to address in achieving data transparency and we welcome:

  • Research papers demonstrating and focusing on how data transparency has been incorporated into the work, with challenges and the extent to which they were overcome with the data used. (They should not be research papers with a nod towards transparency.)
  • Descriptive/discursive papers on how the organisation incorporates data transparency along the path from data collection to dissemination. Similarly, challenges, achievable/appropriate levels of transparency depending on data type and any other factors should be included.

Some articles may include a combination of both.

Please note that the call is not looking for submissions about open science / open data, unless they are specifically focused on how data transparency and other activities can support open science principles in an area of sensitive data and secondary data use.

Closing Date: Friday 13th December

This call will remain open until the end of the year. However, please be aware that IJPDS publishes articles as soon as they are ready rather than holding them and publishing them all at once. Papers that are submitted early will be published more quickly.

General Information:

Please refer to the Author Guidelines/How to Format your Manuscript for specifics on how to format your manuscript before completing your submission.

All manuscripts must be centred on Population Data Science, as per the scope of IJPDS.

To submit a manuscript: either login to your existing account or register if you are submitting for the first time.
